We held a meeting on 9th of June, 2013. this meeting was special as we had Mr Johnny Brown who is a Chairmen at Community Police Forum. Neighbourhood watch is accountable to South African Police service (SAPS) and the local Community Police Forum (CPF). Neighbourhood Watch structures MUST be affiliated to the local CPF in order to be recognized by the law.
There are 18 functioning NHW”s Somerset West area, including "old" Victoria Park, Lorensia Park (small houses) and Paardevlei area. We are waiting for funds from the COCT and will issue a radio the NHW once they have been to NHW training. Radio is directly connected to:
- SAPS,
- The Controlroom (which is manned by Vetus Schola/HCW personnel),
- Securite,
- Vetus Schola/HCW,
- other NHW radio’s,
- EMO,
- ER24.
The next NW training will be held on 26th August, 2013. Please send your filled forms to us or deliver to Mr Brown's office in Somerset West Police station. The form must be filled to best of your ability and acompanied by copy of your ID and 2 passport size photos.
Mr Brown is also a person to contact in regards to road safety (eg. stop streets, speed bumps) and appearance of public land. We discussed the area wall issue (to limit non-resident flow through our area), that has been promissed by Garden cities, but never installed. The issue of Lorensia Park walls poor appearance was also raised.
