− To register to NHW : Citizen of area, No crime record
− Report Problems to COC - Dirty Areas, Graffiti, Broken Street Lights etc
− Bin scratcher solution : Create a profile for each

Neighbourhood Watch meeting (26.August, 2013)

Dear Neighbours, 

There will be a meeting held today 26.August @7pm in Rugby clubhouse. Meetings agenda:

  1. Welcome;
  2. Report back from NHW training held on 24.August;
  3. WhatsApp group communication;
  4. Suggestions on opperation;
  5. General;
  6. Conclusions

Please read bellow the outline of information that will be given about the training held on 24.August.

Crime & Safety

Notes from Neighbourhood watch training

1. Introduction

2. Lecturer: Charl Viljoen,

  • a. Works for City of Cape Town Safety and Security department. 
  • b. Ex Metro Police.  Guardian Angels.
  • c. Rough areas in Cape Town. Passionate.
  • d. Had exposure world wide. Including USA, Israel and Europe. 


3. Broken window policy: Crime follows process of crime

  • a. Broken window / neglected area- starts with a small thing!
  • b. Litter
  • c. Graffiti – signs that nobody cares
  • d. Public drinking – go where no one will bother them.
  • e. Prostitution – prostitutes follow clients
  • f. Drugs- after prostitutes drugs appear in 24hours
  • g. Gangs- follow the money, money is in drugs!


4. Visibility and patrols:

  • a. Patrols must be done when area is safe, to keep it safe
  • b. Polices job is to fight crime
  • c. Signs – in the area, at the member houses- visibality!!!


5. Other issues touched on:

  • a. Bin scratchers – registration- self policing. 
  • b. Drugs- meth, deeling.
  • c. Securing your area- keep order, use plants!

Minutes from the meeting on 12.August

1.Problems in area


· Wednesday mornings beggars scrathing in the bins.

· Strangers roaming in the streets

· Problem Times from 09H00 onwards

· Klampenborg street –vehicles park there weekends not from our area

· Two houses in the area marked as problem houses where there is suspected drug dealing.

· Parents to watch out for children playing in kids park adjacent to Klampenborg street

· Most break-ins occur during the day and according to Mr Thyssen they suspect it is not perpetrators from our area.

· A white vehicle was identified as a possible get away car.


2.Solutions discussed

· To chase away the beggars scratching in bins-for thieves disguise themselves as beggers and move with them to check out property.

· Especially take note of the clothing they wear.

· Mr Thyssen to arrange for frequent police patrol.

· The residents at home during the day to keep a watch out for strangers walking around.

· To post any suspicious movement or characters roaming the streets on our Whatsapp page so make everyone aware to be on the look out.

· If possible for residents to not leave your vehicle parked in your driveway at night.

· Question strangers.

· Change your pattern like for example in the morning when you leave your home.

· Consider to become members of the HCW(Helderberg Crime Watch) for R120 per month per family for regular patrol.

· To raise funds for suveillance cameras especially at the two entrances.

· To start a Neighbourhood Watch-training can be provided.

· Ritma involved with neighbourhood watch residing in third phase of Victoria Park proposed that we join them –she made contact with the Somerset West Police Forum and they organizing a Free neighbourhood watch course on the 24 August venue to be confirmed.The course will provide vital information on how to act if you are confronted with a intruder and to report it to the police.

Next meeting to take place on the 26 August 2013 venue to be confirmed via Whatsapp.

Meeting ended 21h30 and next paln of action is the Neighbourhood Watch Course the 24 August 2013.

Meeting in "Old" Victoria Park

Dear Neighbours,

There was a meeting held yesterday (12.August, 2013) in so called old part of Victoria Park. As we are one residential area, it is wise to connect both parts (old and new) together in one Neighbourhood Watch!

The next step to make our neibourhood safer and more attractive is to go for a Neighbourhood Watch training 

When: Saturday the 24th August 
Where: the Life Church - opposite Waterstone Village. 
What time: Registration at 09h00

We will hopefully have minutes of the meeting available on the blog soon:)

Back in business!

Dear Neighbours,

We have been away for a while (about a month) on our Overseas (www.keiptauna.com) and African adventures (http://1man1bike1adventure.blogspot.com/), but now we are back and will be activating the NHW activities again.

The NHW training will take place on 24.August (Saturday). To take part in the training, please semd us your ID number and let us know You are interested. You will also need: fill in 2 forms, copy of your ID and 2 passport photos.
